Diesel four-wheel drives are very popular in Portugal, due to diesel's lower price (~PTE 115 against PTE 165 for unlead petrol). The Range Rover below has a 300 TDi Land Rover engine, the same as they are using for the Discovery. It is one of the last build - I bought it on the same week they stopped production, in February 1996. The VM motor has been used on the 2-door model, sold in Portugal since 1988. The VM is now in use on the Opel Frontera (also sold as an Isuzu) to fix some of its problems.
The location is called Valongo, near Oporto in the north of Portugal.
The terrain is very rough with lots of sharp rocks (enough to cut a
tire) and a pine forest is all around.
