2000: The base model Range Rover 4.0, launched (in .au) in 1998 at 79,950 but slowly creeping upwards (82K, '99) has been redesignated as the 4.0 S, gained a few features and a few dollars -- 89,950.
There is a 6-CD player, eight speakers, and "steering wheel mounted controls". Front seats are electrically adjusted with "memory". Like the other Range Rovers, the 4.0 S has full-time four wheel drive, traction control, ABS brakes and height adjustable air suspension. A leather trim option adds 3,000 to the price.
The top-line Range Rover 4.6 HSE now costs 119,950 ().

The current Range Rover is still all class,
but it is looking over its shoulder at the replacement due ~2002
which will have BMW 4.4L V8, or V12(!) petrol engines,
or a BMW V8 turbo diesel (even after the Ford take over),
independent front suspension and
