
2004: Limted Edition Jeep Cherokee 4WD is a sporty variation - a manual only 16-Valve 2.4L Power Tech 4-cyl engine. Putting out 108 kW of power and 215 nM of torque it will perform like a true Jeep on road and off!
Also selling in 2004 is an automatic transmission/diesel engine combination. This new engine is an intercooled, turbo-charged 2.8L 4 cylinder powerplant, featuring common-rail direct (CRD) injection and full electronic control.
If you're looking for even more grunt, the existing Power Tech 3.7L V6 delivers a mighty 155 kW of power and 312 nM of torque.
2001: All new Jeep Cherokee/ Liberty 4x4 model.
2000 December: Jeep will stop making the Jeep Cherokee in 2001; it will be replaced by the new Jeep Liberty to be unveiled at the Detroit Auto Show and to go on sale in early 2001.
New shape, what new shape? The Jeep Cherokee 1997 / 1998 model is in fact subtly updated with a slightly more rounded exterior and an improved interior.
Mechanically more significant is the option of a 85 2.5L turbo charged diesel by VM, as an alternative to the long-serving 4.0L 6-cylinder petrol motor which is standard on the "sport". 5-speed manual transmission and command-trac part-time 4WD are standard with the diesel, 4-speed automatic and selec-trac full-time 4WD with the petrol engine. The suspension system remains the same - live axle with coil springs at the front, live axle and leaf springs at the rear.
The list of standard features on both models includes: air-conditioning, dual air-bags, power windows, locks and mirrors, limited-slip rear differential, 4-speaker stereo system. The Cherokee comes with a 2-year or 50,000km warranty and Jeep 24 hour road-side assistance.
