Cheviot 4x4 Centre.Pity the poor poms living in an over crowded country: if they want to exercise their four wheel drive vehicles the opportunities for four wheel driving are severely limited.
Unless you are a farmer or other major land-owner the only way to practice on some rough stuff close to home may be at a four wheel drive school or centre. One such centre in the north of England is the Cheviot 4x4 Centre, Yearle Farm, Wooler, Northumberland tel:01668-282287. Its 250 acres cover steep, high ground and rocky, wooded valleys. (Reasonably priced bed and breakfast can be arranged nearbye.)
The centre's 4x4 trails range from easy to challenging and offer plenty of scope for testing your four wheel drive's suspension and axle articulation, and also its wading ability in the fast flowing river. A big advantage of using a 4x4 centre is that help, advice and even rescue are close at hand if a "problem" should arise.
The 4x4 centre is open to the public every second Sunday of the month and is also available at other times by prior arrangement. At £10.00 per vehicle on open days it is good value for money.
