2004: Toyota will produce only 800 examples of the LandCruiser 100 Series Kakadu Limited Edition (above), the highest-specified LandCruiser limited edition model since the well-remembered Blue Marlin model of 1994. LandCruiser Kakadu offers the choice of Quad Cam V8 or six-cylinder Turbo-diesel engines.

Toyota LandCruiser 100 Series GXL turbo-diesel (right)
won Bushdriver Magazine's 4WD wagon of the year 2000 award.
The 4.2 litre dohc engine produces 151 and 430, up from
125 and 380 in the
80 series.
The GXL now comes with independent front suspension only,
to the regret of many.
2000
October: The 4.2 litre turbo-diesel option returns
to the LandCruiser range, here in a GXV (right),
just in time as petrol prices hit au1.0/litre.
All turbo-diesels have independent front suspension.
Such an engine was available in the
80 series
but the 100
came out
with straight-6 and V8 petrol engines
and the naturally aspirated diesel only.
The petrol V8 is now restricted to the
LX470.
Turbo diesels start at 64,990 for the GXL manual.
