Western Star

2000: One of two Western Star semi-trailers (right) carrying the `Odyssey 2000' road show on a 5 month tour around Australia from 24 May '00. One tractor is powered by a Cummins Signature 600hp engine, the other by a Detroit Diesel 500hp unit. [See also.]

Western Star is a Canadian truck builder, based in Kelowna, British Columbia. It was "established as White Western Star in 1967 by White Motor Co.". In 1981 it was renamed Western Star Trucks Inc. and came under Canadian control. In 1991 it was bought by Terrence E. Peabody of Australia.

Trucks and a light military 4WD are built at Kelowna Canada. Buses are built in New York at Orion Bus Industries, acquired in 1995. Cab-over trucks are made in the UK, at what was ERF, acquired in 1996.

2000: Man buy ERF from Western Star.
March: Western Star (au), buys the Man distributor for Australia and New Zealand, to be known as `Man Automotive Imports'.

2000 July: "Western Star Trucks Holdings announced the merger of its Canadian and American truck, bus and coach operations within the Daimler/Chrysler Group."

LSVW

The Canadian Army Light Support Vehicle (Wheeled) (LSVW) is a joint venture between Western Star and Iveco. A number are used by United Nations' organisations.
