2000 September, right:
The revised Volvo (V70) XC (cross country)
remains 4wd.sofcom.com --> on the "car" side of
even the "cross- over" four wheel drive brigade.
There are two levels of trim -
the Volvo Cross Country and
the premium Volvo Cross Country SE.
The former has mere steel wheels, cloth seats and
lacks the cross-bars for the roof rails.
The latter gets "leather seats, heated front seats,
active carbon cabin air filter, and a nine-speaker Dolby
sound system with four-disc in-dash player."
The four wheel drive system
is effected by a bevel gear on the front drive plus a
viscous
coupling (on the nose of the rear diff')
which take drive from the front (the
V70
is front wheel drive) to the rear.
The (V70) XC inherits 4wd.sofcom.com --> the base V70's revisions:
"the front track has been increased by 90mm and the rear by 57mm."
Volvo's brand of traction control, TRACS,
automatically brakes a spinning wheel, giving most of
the effect of a diff' lock for on-road use at least.
Anti-lock brakes and electronic brake distribution
are also fitted.
Passive safety features include
whiplash protection system (WHIPS),
side impact protection system (SIPS),
Inflatable Curtain (IC - side head airbag),
and dual-stage airbag deployment.
The 2.4-litre low-pressure turbocharged engine produces
147 of power at 6000 and 285 of torque from 1800 to 5000.
Gearbox choices are between
a five-speed manual and
a five-speed automatic with Geartronic manual-shift.
