4x4 Volkswagen Transporter etc., mailing list.
Owners
of the capable off-road Volkswagen 4x4 vans, called
"Transporters", "Caravelles", and "Vanagons",
hang out on the mailing list for Volkswagen Vans.
These vehicles were manufactured 1986-1991
for Volkswagen by Steyr-Daimler-Puch in the same Austrian factory that makes
the Mercedes G-Wagon. They came with factory skid plates, full-time
four-wheel-drive, diff locks front and rear, etc. Roughly 1,000 were sold in
Australia; roughly 5,000 in North America, and the vehicle is still being
manufactured and sold in South Africa by Volkswagen of South Africa.
