Volkswagen Advanced Activity Concept Vehicle
2000 November:
Volkswagen's Advanced Activity Concept Vehicle (AAV),
i.e. four wheel drive in Australian, and
`SUV' in American,
for the Sydney Motor Show, 17 November
2000.
2000 January:
The VW AAV concept ute shown at
the Detroit Motor Show
fitted with a 300hp+ 5-litre V-10 turbocharged diesel,
just one of the engine options being considered,
and VW has a greater variety to consider than most.
The AAV's platform is a result of cooperation with
Porsche,
although the two firms are to market quite different vehicles.
Volkswagen is keen to get some of the
BMW X5/
Ford Explorer/
Merc' M-class
action so for-sure there will have to be a station wagon version.
The show car was fitted with 19" wheels,
height adjustable air suspension,
a 6-speed Tiptronic gearbox, and
2-speed transfer case with full-time four wheel drive.
