1999: The 1998 Toyota GT1 is a road going version of the racing car it built for the Le Mans 24-hour race.
The rules, at that time, required road registered example(s) to be built and available for sale at less than $US1,000,000. Two were in fact built, one being crash tested.
The chassis is carbon fibre, the whole car weighing in at just 900kg. The engine delivers 444kW, giving a top speed of 325km/h (200+mph).
The GT1 was in Australia for the 1999 Sydney Motor Show.
