The 1999 Toyota RAV4 Max ... Max Headroom, Mad Max, live life to the max', I-Max, Max Bygraves, ... Isn't advertising wonderful?

The Max is a special edition RAV4 to increase the car's appeal to the younger set in the face of increasing opposition from the new Mitsubishi iO, Suzuki Vitara and others. The 3-door (SWB) Max costs from 29,990 () and the 5-door from 30,500. The optional 4-speed automatic transmission adds 2,020. The special edition is said to include extras normally costing 6K+, which is good, provided that you actually want them. `Silver Graphite Shining Flake' paint, and matching bumpers and side cladding, or `Shamrock Green' with silver bumpers and side cladding, can be had on the 3-door. They look good around town but bush-tracks could leave scratches in them. The 5-door comes in `White Pearl Mica' or `Silver Graphite' with matching bumpers and trim. SWB and LWB are fitted with 16" alloy wheels and special `Max' trim. Inside is a single-play CD player and, on the safety side, front seat-belt pretensioners.
