2000 November: The new Lexus LS430 is the flagship of Toyota's Lexus brand. Priced at $171,500 ($au) it is intended to compete with the 4.3L ($146K) and 5.5L $192K) variants of the M.B. E-class.
The LS430 has a 4.3 litre V8 engine - 207kW at 5600rpm and 417Nm at 3500rpm.
The LS430 is fitted with front and full-length side-curtain airbags. It has rain-sensing windscreen wipers, low reflection windscreen glass and rain repellant side windows. Parking is made easier by an ultra-sonic proximity detector.
For the chauffeur driven set, a "rear seat enhancement package" (+$8500) adds leather seat trim, and power adjustable rear seats with built in massager.
The new car has a heavy look to its styling, particularly about the nose, which is perhaps Toyota's interpretation of imposing.
