Toyota Corolla

2001 March: Toyota (.au) launched a turbocharged Corolla Sportivo. Only 100 are to be built, at a price of $37,990.

The 1.8 litre engine delivers 115kW at 5600rpm and 237Nm at 3600rpm. Low profile 195/50R15 tyres, alloy wheels, a front spoiler, side skirts and a lifted rear spoiler make sure everyone knows what you've got.
2000 December: Toyota Corolla looks pretty bland but it is a nice drive, and even in the heat of Alice Springs, say, the air conditioning works well. Lots of other people must agree because it has helped Toyota to total (au) sales of 75,657 vehicles, July to November - also aided by the end of the pre-GST buyers' strike.
Toyota's total November sales of 15,160 pipped Holden on 14,850; 3556 Corollas were sold in November.
2000 Neal Bates and co-driver Coral Taylor, in a Toyota Corolla World Rally Car (WRC), finished second to Possum Bourne (Subaru) in the 2000 Australian Rally Championship Super Series.
2000 September: The RACV (.au) picked the 1991 - 1996 Toyota Corolla (right) as a best buy in the $10,000 - $15,000 section of its first "Best Used Car Awards", praising its durability.

Other Toyotas, including the 1992 - 1994 80-series LandCruiser, also did well.
2000 August: Neal Bates drove his Toyota Corolla World rally Car (right) to victory in the 2000 Rally of Melbourne.

Bates is well known for his many tussles with Possum Bourne who drives an Impreza
Bates took a 6 second lead on the first stage of the first heat, going on to win the heat. He opened a 14 second lead at the start of the second heat (Sunday), going on to win it by just 3 seconds.

Bourne leads the championship on 136 point and Bates is second with 128 points. However, if they both discard their two worst heats, as under the scoring system, they are level.
