I was recently in Madagascar where I saw many venerable, ancient and modified Land Rovers. They seem to thrive in that third world context of abuse, low/no maintainance and make it yourself spare parts.

Whilst there are new models (right) around the big towns, most of the remote areas are still using models from the 60's and 70's (above). I suspect that about 95% of all Landies ever imported are still in use.

Madagascar is a living car museum, especially with French cars but it warmed your heart to see so many Landies thriving in such adversity.
