A 1979 Mercedes G-Wagen, a 230-G (carburettor), with 4-speed manual transmission, high range and low range 4-wheel drive.
The location is north-Lebanon, (Zghorta) -
it is about 300 metres altitude, and when summer comes
we go to Ehden (1500m alt').
It is a 1979 230-G, the first series I think,
although the G-Wagen is rather rare here in Lebanon, probably
because it is too expensive, and there are not enough accessories (the
dealer is missing an opportunity).
People use Range Rovers (the most popular 4x4 in Lebanon),
Discovery, Pajero, Blazers, Wranglers and almost no
G-Wagens at all.
They rarely go offroad except some which are becoming real
professionals (in Range Rovers).
The photo was taken in 1994 when our G-Wagen was in good shape (we
bought it in 1992) and there were no off-road activities, but there are
more. The G-Wagen is I think the most reliable 4x4 ever, also
one the most powerful! We like it so much, and I will never buy a 4x4
other than a G-Wagen.
The photo was taken near the Cedars forest at an altitude of about
2800 metres.
