Fraser Island Queensland.

My Landcruiser on Fraser Island last year ('99) - Tim Velema [3/00]

My Subaru L-series Sportswagon (1.8 Carby) on Fraser Island, Queensland during Xmas 1998. The car had no lift kit, but was running 14" rims with mud tyres and survived just fine! (only got bogged once) I was a bit hesitant at first about doing the trip but would [now] highly encourage anybody to do it - Rohan Veal [10/'99]

2 door GM Holden Jackaroo near the Pinnacles on the eastern side of the beach, 1998.

Ascending a track from the western beach front of Fraser Island into the interior of the island.

Here is a pic of my FJ40 making it look easy on Fraser Island. This picture was taken while driving through Eli Creek (on Fraser Island) at high tide.

Note that a sample of water was tasted to ensure that it was fresh. I do not recommend that people do this without first watching the water and walking through to test the bottom.

[Ed: many people run into deep trouble if they have to stop in a creek and the water washes the sand out from under the wheels.]

Pajero

My friend's 1992 model Pajero on Fraser Island, just north of Waddy Point. He went to help someone else who was stuck in a old Daihatsu Rocky, but as he approached the Rocky, he sunk in the sand as well. Soon there was a large number of people around helping to get him but all our efforts proved to no avail. Eventually we had to drive down the beach in another car to get a big tractor to come and pull us out.

Tony Gilber writes: There is a wash-bay at Kingfisher Bay resort. It is only for guests, but no-one would notice if you don't be silly about it. You pay $5 for a token which lasts about five minutes. It uses a Gernie high pressure pump and is quite good. But I will caution you that the only way to remove sand is to put your car on a hoist and high pressure wash it thoroughly from beneath. Afterwards it needs to be greased thoroughly as well. [2/1999]
