Cape York

Creek crossing, taken on Chris and Lynne's
Cape York Trip
to the tip and back, taking in many sights on the way.
It is still an adventure and it pays to be well prepared.

Crossing one of the creeks on the way to the tip
of Cape York, Old Telegraph Rd, far north Queensland, early April 1998.
Despite the bow-wave only a cup of water came into the cabin through the
air vents. The 4WD is a 1992 SR5 Toyota Dual Cab 2.8 Diesel Hilux. We
started in Adelaide and drove to the tip via Birdsville - Cairns - Tip and
back in 24 days. All too quick really, but I am keen to go back again
soon - Sam Morgan

Note the termite mounds!
Termites form a very significant
part of the ecology of outback Australia.

Cape York remains one of the great travel adventures in Australia.
The 4WD track up the Cape is difficult, despite the introduction
of a ferry across the Jardine River in the 1980s?
The trip should not be undertaken lightly.
Vehicles and drivers should be well prepared, and travel in company.
