Nissan Z
2001 January,
North American International Auto Show
[Detroit]:
This Nissan Z sports car is
said to be "near production ready".
It is planned to go on sale in North America in mid 2002 at under US$30K;
the original Datsun 240Z was introduced over 30 years earlier.
The new Z has a front mounted 3.5 litre V6 engine (260hp) and
rear wheel drive in a clean fastback design
in the "wheel at each corner" style.
Acceleration from 0-100km/h (60mph) is said to be under 6 seconds.
Suspension is all independent.
6-speed manual, and 5-speed automatic gearboxes will be offered.
The show car uses leather and metal in the interior and
incorporates styling cues from the earlier Nissan 240Z and 300Z,
to pull all the nostalgia strings.
It is a two seater, but the seat-backs fold for access to the
rear storage compartment.
A convertible version is also planned.
