The International Off-Road Challenge Of Malaysia - Rainforest Challenge '99

Welcome to the Simex 4x4 International Rainforest Challenge '99 to be held in Malaysia from 28th November to 8th December 1999. Simex Marketing Sdn Bhd, a wholly owned subsidiary of DMIB, a member of the Sime Darby Group, sponsors the event for the third consecutive year.

This year, the Simex 4x4 International Rainforest Challenge has gained greater international stature with increased participation from 23 countries in six continents. They include USA, Australia, United Kingdom, Spain, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Sweden, South Africa, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, Thailand and Singapore. Earlier this year, selection trials were held in Australia, Italy, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, United Kingdom and Malaysia.

Specially held during the tropical monsoon season, participants in the RFC will compete in one of the oldest rainforest in the world traversing the Malaysian states of Johore, Pahang and Terenggannu covering over 1,500 km. The Malaysian rainforest will offer the ultimate challenge to man and machine as they battle the slippery and muddy logging trails, steep gradients, swollen rivers, landslides, deep gullies and broken bridges caused by the heavy downpour. Competitors who have to content with the heat, high humidity and insect bites are also tested on their recovery skills, teamwork and environment protection.

DMIB tyres have proven their versatility and capability in one of the toughest jungle terrain's and the company's new off-road tyre, the Jungle Trekker 11 will be making its debut during this event promising excellent traction and driving stability to overcome the most trying and extreme conditions. The durability of DMIB's newly introduced heavy-duty 4x4 battery, Jungle King, will also be proven during the event.

The event is endorsed by the World 4x4 Council. Founded in 1997 in Kuala Lumpur, the Council has its secretariat based in Kuala Lumpur and London. The World 4x4 Council is progressively enlarging its membership to countries in Europe, Africa, Asia Pacific and North America.
