4X4 Challenge 16-21 March 1998
The 1998 4X4 Challenge raised more than $40,000 for charity, the money going to appeals for special kids all around Victoria. This year's start was at the Port Phillip Special School, to be repeated in future years. The 1999 event may run for 8 days, Friday to Saturday, in late March - early April and will be called The Variety Club's 4WD Excellent Adventure - tel:(03)-9420-3208 29 April 1998 16-21 March 1998, 4WD enthusiasts with a sense of the ridiculous will be doing the Variety Club of Victoria's 4X4 Challenge.
The six day event takes them on "challenging tracks from Melbourne to Lakes Entrance via Woods Point, Morwell, Maffra, Swifts Creek and Buchan". This is the second year of the 4X4 Challenge (see [1997]) which "encourages bribing, cheating and friendly rivalry"; you see it is all in the cause of raising money for disadvantaged children with a wide variety of special needs. The Variety Club of Victoria is a part of the worldwide Variety Club charity.
