The weather was kind to the Four Wheel Drive Field Day held at Wandin Park on 17 November 1996; it usually is. Although it rained before and after the day, the Sunday itself was mild, dry and overcast.

New four wheel drives at the show included the civilian RHD Hummer, Jeep Wrangler and Mitsubishi Triton crew-cab. There was a good showing of other 1996 models - Musso, Range Rover, 110's
More unusual vistors were a Dakar, that's a real Dakar and not a Bushranger, and a remarkable device with real four wheel steering by Mal Story of Key Four Wheel Drives.
70 something commercial stands offered
tyres, wheels, jacks, winches, suspensions sytems,
new and used spare parts, engines, engineering services,
and complete vehicles.
Two interesting diff' locks were
the well-known Maxi-Drive and
Jack McNamara's new vacuum operated diff' lock (left).
The latter has the actuating mechanism built into
the differential carrier and is simple to install.
This is the experimental unit used by Roger Smith and Jim Patterson in the
1996 Monsoon Challenge.
Four wheel drive
clubs
and public service organizations also had stands to attract members
or display their functions.
The Four Wheel Drive Field Day is organized by the
Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria
[LROC]
and club members held demonstrations of bush cooking,
mechanical repairs, tyre changing (right) and vehicle recover.
Club vehicles also took visitors on trips around the test track -
nicely slick and boggy after the recent rain.
