Canberra Four Wheel Drive Show.
The event was the Canberra regions biggest ever four wheel drive show with over 4600 people through the gates and nearly 50 exhibitors. Represented were nearly all 4WD vehicles currently available in Australia including Oka and John E Davis' Bush Rangie kit cars (right). The after-market accessory, camping equipment, recovery gear, and tyre people were there in force. The National Parks and Wildlife Service, State Forests, Bushfire Brigade, and Emergency Services were all represented. Each of the organising clubs put on a display.
A feature of the show was a demonstration track with
Land Rover and
Holden
providing new vehicles for visitor evaluation. The track was sufficiently
testing for independent suspension vehicles to regularly bottom out and one
vehicle even staked a tyre!
There was also a series of recovery demonstrations and inter-club competitions including tug-o-wars and Tirfor races.
The clubs provided a substantial donation to the Southern Region Helicopter
Rescue Service from proceeds of the event.
