National Holden Museum

NHM

There are two motoring religions in Australia: Ford and Holden. The shrine to the latter must be the National Holden Museum at Echuca, on the Murray River.

The museum has 40+ restored Holdens from the 1948 48-215, to the Commodore, with Kingswoods, Toranas, Geminis and memorablia in between.

69 Hurr

A truly unique exhibit is the 1969 Holden Hurricane. This concept car is powered by Holden's new (in 1969) Australian built 253 V8, mid-mounted. The windscreen and roof hinge upwards and forwards for entry. Other sci-fi features are the rear-view TV camera, and the oil-cooled front disc brakes. The Hurricane is 39" tall, 1" less than the ("volume") Ford GT40

Open 7 days a week, the Museum is at 7-11 Warren Street, Echuca, just a short walk from the historic `Port area', so you can put the family on a paddle steamer for a river trip, and take in the museum at your leisure, uninterrupted - 4wd.sofcom.com/Museums/ [4/'01]
