Defender 90 (D90).
Like other manufacturers,
Land Rover produce special displays
for motor shows. These include chassis and sectioned vehicles
prepared and painted to show-off mechanical features.
After the show their historic value is more than their cash value
and they often end up in the BMIHT museum.
This Defender 90 chassis shows the long-travel coil spring
suspension front and rear.
The rear view clearly shows the "A-frame" (red)
inherited from the Range Rover (classic).
This locates the rear axle laterally and resists torque.
The Range Rover (classic) was fitted with a Boge automatic
load-levelling unit, running from the apex of the A-frame
to the corresponding chassis member forward of the axle.
This display chassis has the bodywork in rakish pose -
don't know how you could see the road however.
