Mitsubishi Pajero 4X4 1982...
The Mitsubishi Pajero was developed in the early 1980s,
being released in Australia in 1983 (SWB) and 1984 (LWB).
It was one of the first of the "family wagons" and
in the late 1990s its successor is still arguably the best in that class.
From go the LWB had an optional third row of seats
to carry seven in total - ideal for
the school run with the kids' friends.
Back in the 1980s the Pajero
had front independent suspension (as later)
but it had leaf springs on the live rear axle.
Engine options were
a 2.5 litre 4-cylinder `Astron' petrol engine (as in the Sigma sedan) and
a 2.3 litre turbo-charged diesel.
(It later gained a V6 of 3L and then 3.5L capacity.)
