From January 1960 to January 1963 American Motors Corporation (AMC) delivered about 4000 "Mighty Mites" to the United States Marine Corps for use in Vertical Envelopment Operations [i.e. airborne/ parachuting]. The 4x4 has a 4-speed manual transmission, is powered by an air-cooled aluminium V4 engine, and was designed to haul 850 pounds while pulling 1000 pounds in a trailer. With dimensions of 107"x60", it has a 65" wheelbase, and a fueled weight of 1750 pounds. [-Kalamazoo Detachment #879] [6/'01]

Uncle Al has two Mighty Mites - both currently in bad shape. These jeeps were made during the 60's for the US Marines as a light weight disposable truck. They were made very cheaply, example the u-joints are made of plastic. |
