The Rolls Royce petrol engine is enclosed to make it waterproof for
wading through deep water.
The ignition leads are waterproof
and the distributor is enclosed and vented to the
air intake system.
The tall snorkel guarantees clean air in water
up to about two metres deep
although the driver must either hold his or her breath
or stand on the seat if it gets that deep.
The generator is also enclosed.
The water-proofing measures make even simple maintenance difficult,
and it is frequently necessary if much wading is done.
