Mercedes Benz Vision SLA

Mercedes Benz has created a mini, open sports-car prototype, the Vision SLA, based on the A-class sedan and using the 1.9 litre 92kW petrol engine of the A190. The letters `SLA' imply a connection with the SLR super sports (and to be super priced) sports car.

High performance can be had by adding power or lightness (or both). The SLA saves weight by being small, at just 3.77m long, and by such measures as using carbon fibre seat bases.

The Vision SLA debuts at the Detroit Motor Show, 10 January 2000.
