The first prototype Land-Rovers were built on Jeep chassis. Number R-01 from 1947 had a central steering wheel perhaps to hedge Land-Rover's bets for export markets and also to fit in with the anticipated agricultural uses. Other notable features are the gently curved front wings and the external framing on the simple bodywork.

Sadly the prototype does not survive though a replica has been built and is at the Dunsfold Trust?
