In response to a demand for a greater load carrying capacity than the short wheel-base Land-Rover could provide, Rover introduced the 107" model (ute or pickup) in 1953. The Land-Rover 107" station wagon was introduced in 1955. It looks as though it was designed by a committee, a committee of small children with a Meccano set. It is in fact a very practical vehicle carrying 3 in the front, 3 in a second row of seats, and up to four in inwards-facing seats in the rear. The occupants need to be good friends if it is filled to capacity. The bodywork was designed to use as many panels as possible from the short wheel-base Land-Rover. |
