2001 June: Land Rover is hoping to make some sales of Land Rover Defenders out of the movie `Tomb Raider' starring Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft and opening on 21 June (.au).
Lara Croft drives a topless
V8 Land Rover Defender high capacity pickup (HCPU) with
loads of special expedition gear.
The bad guy drives a Range Rover - a definite trend in movies.
Australians will be able to buy
a limited edition Defender V Wagon Td5 Extreme `TR' in
Bonatti Grey - Lara's favourite car colour -
for 49,990 + orc.
Well, the Defender is seen in a better light than the Jeep in
`Breakdown' which was on the box recently.
The `TR' features
"roof rack, rear ladder, headlamp protectors,
2×roof mounted & 2×front mounted spot lights,
bull bar, chequer plate bonnet, wing top & support strip
protector kit, chequer plate side-rails, raised air intake,
sump guard and windscreen washer guard" [-LR].
2001 Victorian 4WD Show: LandRover Defender 110 Xtreme has the sophisticated transmission and brake electronics from the current Discovery: ABS and traction control as well as the centre differential lock (the Disco' still has the lock in the transfer case but no switch).
The engine is the Td5 2.5-litre, 5-cylinder,
turbo charged and intercooled, "common rail" diesel.
The Defender Xtreme is even fitted with 5-spoke alloy wheels.
