Jaguar X-Type
2001 March
Melbourne Motor Show: The Australian covers come
off the Jaguar X-type.
The 2.5 and 3-litre AJ-V6 engines are based on a Ford engine, and
mounted transversely, as in the Ford Mondeo
from which platform the X-type is also developed.
Here however the engine drives the front and rear axles
with a 40:60 torque split.
2000 November:
The "compact" Jaguar X-type goes on sale in the UK
in mid 2001, in Australia by late 2001.
Would you believe that it is based on the platform of the Ford Mondeo?
It is amazing what a little cat like styling will disguise.
While the Mondeo is a front wheel drive car,
the X-type has four wheel drive,
the first such Jaguar ever.
The choice of engines is between 2.5-litre and 3-litre V6s
based on the S-type's larger AJ-V6.
The X-type is intended to compete with the
Audi A4 and
BMW 3-series.
