The Sport first went on sale in Australia in late 1995 but the Estate is not available here, perhaps because it is too close to the GM Holden Jackaroo?

Pictured is a 1991 2.3TDS - turbo-charged, intercooled diesel. The 1997 model offers a 2.5 litre version of the diesel. The petrol alternative is a 2.2L 16-valve engine. The gossip is that the Frontera is not the most reliable 4x4 around.

The Estate has basically a car type body, jacked up a bit on a chassis and with 16" wheels, but a car type body and seating position. This makes for a civilised interior but the low seating position is not the best for peering over the bonnet in a tight spot and rear leg room is cramped for a big guy.
