Ford Mustang

It is expected the that Ford Mustang convertible
will be much more popular than the (closed) coupe
in Australia.

2001 February:
The Ford Mustang went on sale in Australia.
The Mustang is available as a closed coupe and as a convertible.
The Australian cars are fitted with Ford's 4.6-litre, alloy V8,
240 at 6000, and 430 at 4750. V6 in available in the US -->
The engine has 4-valves per cylinder and dohc (per bank).
The gearbox is a 5-speed manual "Tremec" T45.
Front suspension is MacPherson strut, rear suspension
independent with double wishbones.
Prices are from 85,000 for the coupe and 89,000 for the convertible
( 2/2001).

2000 November:
Ford Mustangs made appearances at the Melbourne and Sydney motor shows
in advance of going on sale locally in early 2001.
As yet prices are not set but
SVO Business Development Manager Rick Nayler says that
"Mustang will be the only high-performance V8 coupe or convertible on the
market here [au] under 100,000."
The Mustang has a 4.6 litre alloy dohc V8 engine
producing 240 and 430.
The right hand drive conversions are being
carried out by the Ford/Tickford "speed shop"
Tickford Vehicle Engineering.
The Australian spec' will include
ABS, traction control, and 17" wheels.
Ford Mustangs were last officially sold in Australia
in 1964 - 1965.
