2001 March Melbourne Motor Show: The Ford R5 crew-cab ute, design study cum prototype, this one fitted with a full time four wheel drive system.
The engine is a 5-litre V8 (220),
driving a 5-speed manual gearbox.
It is thought that any production version of the R5 would be fitted with a light duty 4WD system (without low ratio), using traction control to improve offroad traction.
The R5 4x4 has 17" wheels and 150mm ground clearance.
There is a 1-ton electric winch tucked away
behind the front bumper.
The Ford R5 is a four door,
the smaller rear doors being hinged at the rear, and
overlapped by the front doors. There is no B-pillar
so the side opening is large and one wonders at the rigidity
of the body offroad.

shown in 2000.
