The
main indoor exhibition venue in Melbourne is
the Melbourne Exhibition Centre,
2 Clarendon St, Southbank, Victoria 3006.
This was opened in 1996 to replace
the Royal Exhibition Building
which is being redeveloped to house the state museum.
The new centre is in the midst of the revitalised Southbank area,
near to the
Victorian Arts Centre,
the Crown Casino and
the Polly Woodside maritime museum.
The first event at the new Exhibition Centre was the 1996
Melbourne International Motor Show
(1-11 March 1996)
which was timed to coincide with the first staging of the
Australian Formula One Grand-Prix at Albert Park, Melbourne,
after its move from Adelaide South Australia.
