Daewoo Korando (back) on sale Oct' 1998

1998, August: Having taken control of Ssangyong in late 1997, Daewoo put the Musso four wheel drive back on the Australian market, now no longer through Mercedes Benz dealers, but badged as a Daewoo and being sold through Daewoo dealerships. There has been a change of features to simplify the range and reduce prices: e.g. ABS brakes are no longer offered.

Korando

(Daewoo) Korando went back on sale, October 1998. It was discontinued (au) in May 2000; no manufacturer has been able to make a real success of selling a larger short wheel base 4WD in Australia.

2000 January: having bought Ssangyong in 1997, Daewoo itself got into financial problems by late 1999 and will probably have to sell its vehicle building section. GM, Ford and possibly other groups are looking to buy.
2000 June 29: Ford won the bidding for Daewoo with a preliminary offer of $6.9 billion, but withdrew in September.

2000 November 9: Daewoo declared bankrupt. GM ~ Fiat are still thought to be interested in buying the company.
