2000: Daimler Chrysler acquired 1/3 of Mitsubishi.

1998, 8 May: Chryler and Mercedes Benz announced that they are planning to merge. Chrysler is the #5 car-maker in terms of world production figures. MB is Germany's larget industrial company. The deal is seen as widening opportunities for the new company, with relatively little overlap between Benz's and Chrysler's markets in terms of geography and image.
1998, 18 September: Shareholders in Chrysler and MB approved the deal.
