The 1968 Austin Ant did not make it past the prototype stage. Another product of the genius of Alec Issigonis, it is a compact four wheel drive with a transverse front-mounted engine of 1275cc (sound familiar?) which drives the front wheels, with selectable drive to the rear, i.e. part-time four wheel drive.
It is a neat little car, but production costs would have been close to those of the much larger Land Rover and the project was stopped as being uneconomic.
