Ford F-series
2001 July:
Ford F250 and F350 4x2 and 4x4 light trucks
are again being officially imported into Australia.
Low volume unofficial imports have been available for some time
with local RHD conversions, but Ford are now bringing in
RHD models built in Brazil.
Ford last imported the F-series in 1992.
(There are no plans to import the F150 because the
Falcon ute
has a similar load carrying capacity.)
Engine choices are between
a 5.4-litre petrol V8 (194kW at 4500rpm and 475Nm at 2500rpm), and
4.2 litre straight-6 (132kW at 3400rpm and 500Nm at 1600rpm) &
7.3-litre V8 (175kW at 2600rpm and 684Nm at 1800rpm)
turbo charged diesels.
Manual and automatic tranmissions are available,
depending on the model.
The trucks are available as
chassis cab and ute (pick-up),
single-, super- & crew-cab,
in 4x2 and 4x4.
The super-cab and crew-cab are available from November 2001.
There are two levels of trim -
the basic XL and the better XLT.
Air conditioning, power steering, power mirrors, and LSD
are standard across the range.
XLT models also get
dual airbags, power windows, and cruise control
(plus 4×disc brakes and alloy wheels on the F250).
Prices: From $52K to $74K ($au 7/2001).
Ford reports that a local test programme has been running for 2.5 years
and that appropriate modifications have resulted,
notably the fitting of quad (four) shock absorbers to the rear of the F250
to cope with corrugated dirt roads.
Air filters, door seals and engine fixtures also received
attention.
