2001 June: The `Red Book' survey of vehicle resale values three years from new, published in the July issue of `Wheels' magazine shows good results for Mercedes Benz cars and vehicles.

The Mclass was the best medium 4x4 surveyed, with the ML320 auto' keeping 68.7%, and the ML430 V8 keeping 67.4% of their new values three years later. Of course you have to interpret the results carefully. They might mean in part that few Mclass are taken offroad and are consequently in good condition where Jeeps and Land Rovers, say, might spend more time in the bush and show the consequences statistically speaking. Anyway, 2/3 retained value is very good for a 4x4.

The CLK Avantgarde cabriolet auto' retained 72% and was awarded 5-stars, the best result in the survey. The small A-class returned upto 67.3%, depending on the model. The C240 classic sedan auto' retained 65.7%, the E240 classic sedan auto' 66.9% and the large S430 60.7%.
