Four Wheel Drives 2000
A look back at Four Wheel Drives over 2000.
Dutton Marine produced a
four wheel drive version of the
Commander amphibious
car. It uses Suzuki Samurai 4WD components.

The price of fuel
went up and up (crude, US$35+)
so it was good timing that the back room developments in
fuel cells,
hybrid power systems, etc. got one or two steps nearer to production.
e.g. Daimler Chrysler have prototype Dodge
Durango 4x4s
running around with plans for sales ~2003.

`Convergence' continues with family cars and station wagons
(this is the
Volvo Cross Country)
and light duty four wheel drives growing more and more alike.

Mitsubishi's
new Pajero
upped the level of (road) sophistication in the family 4WD wagon.
It won the best 4WD category in
Australia's Best Cars Awards
(Nov' '00).

But forget convergence.
The Tatra T813
may come close, but this
Maz 8x8
must be the largest submission to 4WDonline in 2000...

... and the Suzuki
Carry 4x4
may be the smallest (Quad's excepted).
