The Australian Inland Mission at Innamincka
was restored by the Australian
Geographic Society and is now home to the National Parks. There's a museum
downstairs detailing the history of the mission.
At last a chance to use the well- travelled firewood. There are 8km of
camping sites along the shores of the waterhole, about 11km north of
Innamincka. You can camp around the town as well, but there's something
really special about Cullyamurra -
- Cullyamurra Waterhole. A great sunset and a great spot to camp. The bird
life along the waterhole was amazing. I've never seen so many pelicans in
one place, not even on the coast. It's best to get to bed early here
because the corellas wake you up at first light.
The Innamincka Trading Post. There's not much they don't sell here,
including Desert Parks passes if the National Park office is
closed.

The Dig Tree
is probably the most famous tree in Australian exploration
history. This is where the ill fated Burke and Wills expedition was left
supplies buried under this tree in 1861. It's in
Queensland
on Nappa Merrie
Station a huge cattle property owned by a pastoral company that in its turn
is owned by AMP. They charge $11 a vehicle.
The Dig Tree Loop road proved to be full of deep bog holes that sprayed mud
over the entire car.
This is Greg, the mascot at the Innamincka Pub. There's a sign in the beer
garden (The Outa-mincka bar!) that claims that misbehaving children will be
fed to Greg. Personally I wouldn't want to risk it! Keep those kids under
control at all times!
