Jaguar
(owned by Ford) has the XK180 concept car (left),
powered by a 450hp supercharged V8, with styling reminiscent
of the classic D-type / E-type sports cars of the 1950s and 1960s.
There is also evidence of Jaguar's entry into Formula One Grand Prix racing
in 2000; the marque used to race sports cars, but never F1.

The 2000 Lamborghini
Diablo GT has a 405kW 6 litre V12 engine
which drives through a four wheel drive VT (viscous traction)
transmission. This is claimed to make it the world's
fastest production car at 328km/h, or about three times the speed limit
in most countries.

Land Rover's
model range is stable for 2000 -
Range Rover, Discovery, Freelander.
A new Range Rover must be on the horizon, but it's not on the stand.

The Mazda Active Vehicle Concept,
aka Tribute,
4x4 is based on the Mazda 626 (4x2 sedan).
Will it also appear with a Ford badge (Escape)?

Mercedes Benz's
M-class
four wheel drive has improved trim and the
3.2L V6 and 4.3L V8 petrol engine options are joined
by the ML270 2.7L 5-cylinder turbo-charged diesel.
There is also a fire breathing
ML55 version
(right) of the 4x4 on the stand.
[It is intended to go on sale (au) in late 2000;
pricing is undecided as yet.]

Mitsubishi has the
HSR-VI
concept (i.e. wild flight of fancy) car dominating its stand.
This particularly explores new possibilities for doors which
are so inconvenient from a designer's point of view:
The top part of the door lifts up, as in a gull-wing,
and the lower part hinges down.
Four wheel drive interest centres on the new
Pajero
4WD (left) for release in Australia later this year.
For some reason the new Pajero is tucked away in a corner at
the back of the stand, perhaps because there are many examples
of the old model still to be sold. The
Challenger
4WD still has rear leaf springs;
expect coils some time after the new Pajero has gone on sale.
